Diary Series: Dave Wojcik, Assoc. Head Coach - Boise State

As I was thinking about what to write about this month, I kept remembering something I overheard at my son's basketball game the other day.

While my son was changing his shoes after his game, a gentleman stopped by to say 'good game' and then asked him how he liked living in Boise, Idaho. Without drawing attention to the conversation, I quickly tuned in and was curious what his answer would be.  My son has moved around quite a bit in his lifetime and always seems to adapt well and find his way... But does he like it here was the question. You can imagine my reaction when he told the gentleman, "it was his favorite place he has lived!"

We all know moving and transitioning to a new job has it challenges.  But when your 12 year old son validates your move and has found a wonderful place to call home, well it makes a dad feel pretty good -- even if you lost a game the night before.

I could very easily write about how we need to execute better on offense, but as I think about what my son said, I have decided to share why Boise, Idaho, is such a wonderful place.

Boise is located in western Idaho surrounded by the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. It is a bike conducive city, with a greenbelt bike path that stretches over 20 miles. My son rides to school, to the movies and even can come to BSU for lunch with his dad without even having to cross a street. I ride to work in the offseason and we joke and say coach Rice is probably the only head coach in the country that can canoe to work if he would like.

That's because the Boise River is right in our backyard and is always busy with people floating, swimming and fly-fishing.  The river runs through out the city of Boise and winds straight through the BSU campus. Boise also boasts a ski resort only 20 minutes away from the city. During the grind of the season it is nice to be able to walk right out your front door to "get away" and let your mind wonder in the beauty that surrounds you.

Whether it is a bike ride, fishing in the river, a walk in the foothills or watching my son play ball, escaping the daily rigors of college coaching, even if it is for only a few moments, is easy to do in a city like Boise! If you ever get the opportunity come visit the city of trees, I guarantee that you will be pleasantly surprised.

And, as always, Go Broncos!
