NCDS: Rob Moxley, Assoc. Head Coach - Charlotte

We are entering our sixth game against an old Conference USA foe, East Carolina. In our 12 years here at Charlotte Bobby Lutz has always relied heavily on the three point shot. This year we still have the ability to make a lot of threes, yet this is our best group of post players since 2001 when we had Cam Stephens, Jermaine Williams, Kenkay Jones as well as NBA lottery pick and National Freshman of the Year Rodney White. This group is led by Shamari Spears with 24 ppg and 5 rpg, Chris Braswell 7 ppg and 8 rpg, Phil Jones 7 ppg and 6 rpg, and KJ Sherrill.
We have changed our mentality to demand our guys to get our post players as many touches as possible both in the low and high post. When we have played from inside to outside we have shot a great field goal percentage from the two and three point line. We also have rebounded the ball very well at times led by our posts and this happens because of our positioning in our offensive sets.
Although it is early in the season, we have faced various challenges on the road. The Duke game was a major disappointment, however our guys learned from it and we were able to beat a very good Hofstra team at their place.
Like every team at this stage, it is all about getting better every single day. Our guys are giving great effort in practice and we must continue to get better on the defensive end. Our offensive execution is way ahead of schedule but our defense must get tougher and more solid.
We play East Carolina Wednesday at home and then Saturday we play at Louisville. I have the Louisville scout and I consider Rick Pitino to be the best coach in America so it will be a great challenge. This is the last season Louisville will play in Freedom Hall and we are honored to get one more game in front of the great Louisville fans.
Best in Basketball,
Rob Moxley
