• Kyle Smith was named Columbia's 22nd head coach in the 110-year history of the men's basketball program on May 2, 2010.

• Prior to arriving in New York, Smith spent nine seasons under Coach Randy Bennett at St. Mary's.  The highly successful Gaels run during his tenure was culminated by a Sweet 16 appearance in 2009-10.  

• Smith also spent time at Air Force and his alma mater Hamilton, where he helped guide that squad to a Division III, No. 1 national ranking in 1990-91.
