NCDS: Kareem Richardson, Asst. Coach - Drake

By: Kareem Richardson, Asst. Coach - Drake

Against Illinois State this past Saturday I had the opportunity to watch one of our young men reach a career milestone that places him among Drake's all-time greats.  Josh Young became Drake University's all-time leading scorer when he scored 22 points against Illinois State, which gave him 1,665 points for his career.  Josh has averaged double digit points every year since he has been at Drake.  Not only has he been successful scoring points, but he has really developed his overall game this year while averaging career highs in assists and rebounds.

It is great to see someone that works so hard be successful.  As a coach, you want to see good people that do things the right way be successful, and that is definitely the case with Josh.  He is a class act that represents his teammates, coaches, and university in the highest manner.  His leadership to our team is invaluable and we're so fortunate to have him in a Bulldog uniform.  Drake will continue to reap the rewards in years to come as he has shown our young guys what it takes to be successful at this level.

Josh is becoming recognized on a national level for his career accomplishments.  He is currently in 3rd place in the voting for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes athletes who have had success in the four areas of:  classroom, character, community, and competition.

Josh has been very successful in all four areas.  He is a two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete Honoree.  He is in his second year as a team captain this season due to his strong leadership abilities.  Josh has been active in the community, as he has been an integral part in the Bulldog Reading Program, which stresses the importance of reading to local elementary school kids.  As a competitor, not only is he Drake's all-time leading scorer but Josh has a career record of 73-52 and helped lead the 2007-08 team to the NCAA tournament.

Thanks for all of your hard work Josh; I look forward to a strong finish to the season for the Bulldogs!
