• Vanderslice joined the Furman coaching staff in May 2008.

• Prior to coaching at Furman, Vanderslice was a member of the coaching staff at the University of Toledo. He was a director of basketball operations (2004-05) and graduate assistant manager (2005-06). He served as an assistant coach for two seasons (2006-08).

• At Toledo, Vanderslice helped the Rockets capture their first Mid-American Conference regular season title in 27 years (2006-07).

In the words of the Captain in the infamous 1967 movie, Cool Hand Luke, "What we've got here is a failure to communicate." Well, he's not the only one that has seen a breakdown in communication. After a 57-46 road loss to Wofford last Saturday it was apparent to us that something had to be done with our team to improve in this area.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year! There is nothing like starting off the New Year by getting a win under your belt. We just wrapped up part I of this season with a victory over Erskine College and concluded our non-conference schedule with a 6-5 record. Were heading into what I like to call part II of the season which is conference play TONIGHT, January 7th, versus Elon.

It's conference time! At least for this week! The Southern Conference typically plays a Thursday, Saturday rotation once conference starts to take advantage of the schools that are close in proximity. These "travel partner" schools allow away teams to save time and money by playing back to back contests at virtually the same location. Although we are not quite at the heart of conference
