It is near March, which means the best time of the year is ahead of us. This is the time that teams start to step up their play. Every game, every possession, every time out all take on added significance. It is the time of year that you need to be playing your best basketball, which I think we are.

It has been a while since I have been able to write, but hope to update everyone on what has been happening with Illinois basketball after a rough non-conference season. We started off 4-0 in the Big Ten and currently sit at 6-3 and tied for second place. We have put ourselves in a good position for the second half of the conference season. While it is a very difficult schedule, we need to get some good quality wins.

We have had an up-and-down month since my last entry here on College Chalktalk. A season is filled with many highs and lows and it is important to always remember that things are never as good as they seem, but they are also never as bad as they seem. We are in the middle of a marathon - not a sprint.

This is an exciting time for Illinois basketball. There have been high expectations placed on our team this year, and that is something that we relish. We have a nice mix of veterans and newcomers. It will be interesting to see how they will all blend together as the season progresses. As a coach, this is a great situation.
