Everyone talks about March Madness, which is undoubtedly one of the most exciting times in all of sports. And every college team in America wants to be playing their best basketball as they head into March. This is why "February Basketball" is so exciting. It's the month to build momentum heading into March.
As we enter February here at James Madison, we are coming off an exciting week, going 2-1 in games that all went down to the last second. Because of the blizzard in late December, we started off the week on Monday playing a make-up game against Radford and NBA prospect Art Parakhouski. Radford is an experienced team, having made the NCAA tournament last year, and after a 40 minute battle, we were able to pull out a 67-63 win, hitting two free throws with a second left to ice the win.
Wednesday, we faced William and Mary, who is having a great season and has won games at Wake Forest and Maryland this year. After another back and forth battle, we were able to get a key stop on the last possession of the game and secure a 65-63 win.
On Saturday, we travelled to conference leader George Mason. After being down 13 with ten minutes to go, we fought back to make it a one possession game with 50 seconds left. On this day, however, our last second luck ran out. We lost 70-68, missing a 40-foot desperation shot at the buzzer that would have won the game.
Well, now January is over, and it's time to get "February Basketball" and the stretch run started!
