NCDS: Ken Dempsey, Assoc. Head Coach - New Hampshire

DURHAM - As a college basketball coach, you have to have the ability to react and adapt to so many situations that may develop during the year. And that has never been more evident than what head coach Bill Herrion and our staff have encountered here this year at UNH. This was a year that was filled with so much promise in the preseason, only to be derailed by season ending injuries to two of our top players, senior Alvin Abreu and sophomore Ferg Myrick. Needless to say, it took a huge emtional toll on our team, staff and UNH basketball community.  While those stories have clouded over our season, there has been another story that has emerged to the front of the media pages: the development of senior captain Tyrone Conley.

Tyrone has been a solid and steady performer for us for three years. An all rookie selection in his first season as a Wildcat, Tyrone has stepped up in a big way for our program this year. He is our leading scorer, guards our opponent's top perimeter player each game, is our hardest worker and more importantly has developed into a top-notch leader both on and off the court. Tyrone's development can be attributed to two things: an ability to work hard and listen each day along with the constant efforts of Coach Herrion to get more out of him as a player and person.

The latter fact is something that our staff and team has watched develop each day. Bill is a hard and demanding coach who brings tremendous passion each day. It is what fuels our program each day. Tyrone understands that and has developed into the player that he has become because of that He is a daily example of what can happen when a young player can connect with a head coach's message each and every day.

As a result, Tyrone has and should garner serious attention as all conference player this year. Our staff feels this way and our team knows this too. As we head into the final month of our conference season before the America East tournament in Hartford, we know that we will continue to rely on the play and leadership that Tyrone has given us. And for Coach Herrion and our staff and team, that is a very refreshing thought. Please continue to follow us at www.unhwildcats.com. Til next time, Go Cats!
