First and foremost, I just want to thank our fans, especially our student body for making this year special for our players and staff. What a great atmosphere in UNF Arena this season, and hopefully next season, it will be even more exciting as we continue to achieve program firsts on a daily basis.
We finished out the regular season with a 13-17 mark, and a 8-12 conference record. As coaches, we always want to do better, but after being picked by the media 11th out of 11 teams in the preseason, finishing 7th and qualifying for the school's first ever post season tournament (We will open up with rival Jacksonville in the Atlantic Sun Tourney) is a step in the right direction for the program.
Highlighting our regular season were victories over Canisius, New Orleans, and Southern Miss (to win the Southern Mississippi Christmas Classic), as well as conference wins over Belmont and on the road at regular season champion Lipscomb.
Preparing for the conference tournament is definitely more mental for our guys then physical. No player on our team has ever been to a post season before, so "they don't know what they don't know." Besides the usual scouting report, stats, and bracket overviews, it is important to remind the guys where we have been.
We are the only team in the league this season to have won a three game neutral site tournament during the regular season. We definitely defended as well as we had all year and really shared the ball well. We will continue to show the guys clips of that Southern Miss tournament as well as Jacksonville clips to get ready for Wednesday. Being in the same city and already have played JU twice, our guys know what they do and who their best players are. This preparation will be more about us and getting back to doing what we do best.
Always an exciting time of the year!! Hoping to rewrite North Florida's history books this week in Macon, GA...
