NCDS: Jeremy Shyatt, Asst. Coach - North Florida ("Thinking Outside the Box")

By: Jeremy Shyatt, Asst. Coach - North Florida

With the season underway, you definitely start to get in a routine of practice, scouting reports, and games.  It seems when one scout ends, it is time to start the next game!!

We recently finished up a road trip to Illinois State, and although the game didn't go our way (We lost 71-55), had an interesting way of preparing for the game.

We flew out of Jacksonville to Chicago (Normal, IL is about two hours from Chicago), with about a 2 ½ hour layover in Atlanta.

On all road trips, we bring our own projector with us, utilizing it to watch film in the hotel, as well as power point shows in the hotel, and in the arena before games.  Once we got to the Atlanta airport, we took the team to the E terminal (International Flights), because it was midday and it wouldn't be busy...

After finding a quiet corner of the terminal, we sat the guys down, did the scouting report (power point) and showed them an Offensive Edit of Illinois State's sets/under ob's, etc.  I can honestly say it's the first time I have ever been a part of a group doing a scouting report in an airport, but it was awesome!!  After finishing, we could then hand out the scouting reports for the guys to look on the last leg of the trip, as well as the hotel.  They had a leg up on preparation and still had time to themselves to grab something to eat in the airport.

I even think the cleaning ladies and flight attendants in the airport had a good feel for Osiris Eldridge's NBA 3pt range (I swear that guy can shoot from 30 ft out)...

Another way to think outside the box!!
