Some thoughts here in Friartown as we get ready to face a very good UConn team... Because the Big East is such a large league with so many great programs and different styles you pretty much see everything imaginable offensively and defensively.

Happy New Year to all!!! We have started our Big East schedule. And as everyone is well aware, the league is a BEAST! Unfortunately we dropped our first one to a veteran, strong, and well coached Notre Dame team on the road. On the way back, I was thinking that we have played five road games already, with a sixth coming on Sunday against a good St. John's team in the Big Apple.

We are in what we call the grinder this time of year. Between games, travel, practices, academics, lifting, recruiting, scouting, etc. There is no rest for the weary.

First off I'd like to thank College Chalktalk for having me as a columnist. It is a great site that provides super insight into the ever exciting world of college hoops. I'm writing this to you after our first couple weeks of practice I think I speak for almost every coach in America when I say optimism truly runs rampant this time of year!
