March Madness is upon us. March means many thing to different teams, as we all hope we are a part of the madness. Each year always brings something new, and for the Hawks this season has brought about a challenge that we have never really faced before.
As the final few games are upon us, we are faced with the prospect of possibly not qualifying for the A-10 play-offs. Most seasons, we are usually playing for seeding on Hawk Hill, or talking about the postseason opportunities. With a roster consisting of six freshmen and sophomores in our top eight, we are faced with some do or die games in the final week. I believe that each of us as coaches have learned a great deal from this trying season, and realize why we are in the position that we are.
As we have struggled a bit this season, it is great to see the Atlantic 10 have such great success, with a possible record number of bids being awarded. Not only do I feel they are warranted, but I feel the A-10 will represent itself well by winning a number of games in the NCAA Tournament regardless of the draws received. Many coaching staffs in our league should be commended, along with their respective administrations for outstanding seasons.
And the future looks good. Many of the players that will make all league will return next season, as will a large percentage of many team's key players. This will enable the Atlantic 10 to be a top conference into next season as well, and could even increase the number of tournament teams next season. The exposure is great for so many reasons for each of our respective schools.
We are hoping to supply the loyal Hawk faithful with something to cheer about in our final week. I wish all the A-10 schools the best for a long run in the post season. Let the madness begin. The Hawk will never die!
Dave
