We experienced a rough stretch recently and ending up
losing five out of seven games. Our players showed great
resolve and increased their focus to work on areas that were
contributing to our losses. The main concern was taking care of the
ball. In our five losses, our opponents averaged 21 points off
turnovers.
During this time our senior leadership was excellent. Damion James,
Justin Mason, and Dexter Pittman held themselves accountable and
set the tone for our team everyday. They each visited with younger
players on our team to help them handle "hitting the wall" and
spent extra time watching film on ways they can help the team.
As coaches we wanted to make sure our team realized how good they
are and how great they can be. We emphasized positive plays
throughout the season and reminded them of how they played in games
we won. We showed a highlight tape of us running the floor, moving
the ball on offense, and making simple plays. The emphasis was on
attacking in transition and making the extra pass on offense. We
talked to our players about finding a way to make your teammate
look good.
The team certainly responded well and we enjoyed a victory in which
we scored 91 points and had 19 assists. The seniors allowed the
team to enjoy the moment but let everyone know nothing has changed.
Our focus has been and will continue to be getting better everyday.
