NCDS: Bobby Hurley, Asst. Coach - Wagner
Hey guys. For starters I just want to say congratulations to Coach K on an impressive comeback victory over North Carolina.
I can’t believe it is almost the end of the regular season. It seems like only yesterday that it was the beginning of October and we were getting ready for our first practice. So far our team is 12-12, including an 8-5 mark in the league. We still haven’t achieved our goal of making the playoffs but are on the precipice with five games remaining.
Coming into the year not much was expected of us by the prognosticators (Preseason 11-of-12) but we have swept preseason pick Quinnipiac while doubling our victory total from a year ago. While the season is still far from over, I must say that I have had a great time thus far in my first season back in the college game since my senior year way back in 1993. It has been a rewarding experience, helping the kids grow and evolve on the court as well as off of it while also getting a chance to work with my brother Dan as well as coaches Bashir Mason, Luke Murray, Andrew Duffy and Scott Smith.
Coming into the season, our goal was to qualify for the conference tournament after failing to gain entry a year ago and a win in our next game would almost certainly make that dream a reality. But first we have to get past a Mount St. Mary’s team that defeated us on Wednesday.
For those of you that are not familiar with the Northeast Conference, our league has a little something called Rivalry Week in which each team plays their travel partner in back-to-back games. Well we lost to the Mount on Wednesday by a 71-57 count, but got a shot at payback on Saturday... and were fortunate to come away with a big win, 70-65.
So, until next time, this is assistant coach Bobby Hurley signing off from Staten Island.
