NCDS: Dave Wojcik, Asst. Coach - Wake Forest
By: Dave Wojcik, Asst. Coach - Wake Forest
With Senior Day approaching and this class being Coach Prosser's last recruiting class it is only fitting that we thank L.D. Williams, David Weaver, Chas McFarland and Ishmael Smith for their four years of dedication, hard work and inspiration.
We always judge players about what is accomplished on the court, however, I must say this group has captured the community with all their off court accolades. The sudden death of Coach Prosser was enough in itself to overcome, and then to lose Coach Battle's wife the following year was devastating.
Things have not always gone the way they have hoped, but they have persevered, and have represented Wake Forest with nothing but class. Although this is only my first season at Wake I can't tell you how many times I have been at my son's games and people, who I do not even know, come up to me to let me know how much they appreciate the respect that the Wake Forest players show and how they always take time to speak and share with their children.
Ish, David, L.D. and Chas can also be found visiting local
schools, reading to elementary students, and visiting sick and
cancer ridden patients on their off days; just always giving to
others way beyond their court experiences. Winning games is
what we all want and is the bottom line but it is refreshing to be
around such great kids.
It has been a pleasure being a part of the Coaches' Diary Series
and appreciate all of you taking the time to read these entries.
